About NEXA
NEXA (Nuclear Excellence & Assurance Institute) is a sovereign, independent, non-profit continental institution strengthening nuclear safety, workforce competence, and digital accountability across Africa.
NEXA does not replace national regulators. It strengthens them — through verified evidence, harmonised standards, and a continent-wide digital assurance system.
Core Mission
  • Strengthen national nuclear regulators
  • Enable safe and harmonised SMR deployment
  • Build a verified African nuclear workforce
  • Digitally secure Africa's nuclear future
  • Enhance public trust and transparency
NEXA acts as Africa's technical foundation for nuclear readiness, safety, and long-term institutional continuity.
What NEXA Does
Three Core Mandates:
1
Assurance & Oversight
Independent QAQC verification, reactor oversight, safety culture assessment, and event review across national programmes.
2
Capability Verification
The Q-Grade framework verifies competence independently from training providers, ensuring true readiness and safety.
3
Digital Nuclear Governance
NEXA-Q provides Africa's unified digital platform for nuclear asset traceability, event logging, competency verification, and safeguards alignment.
The NEQSR Standard
Africa's Harmonised Nuclear Excellence, Qualification, Safety & Reactor Assurance Standard
The NEQSR Standard is the continental code system established by NEXA to harmonise nuclear engineering, reactor systems, safety culture, workforce qualification, emergency preparedness, and verification processes across African nuclear programmes.
NEQSR Standard families
  • N-Codes — Nuclear Engineering Oversight
  • R-Codes — Reactor Systems Assurance
  • S-Codes — Safety Culture & Behaviour
  • Q-Grades — Workforce Qualification
  • E-Codes — Emergency Preparedness
  • TV-Codes — Training–Verification Integration
The NEQSR Standard ensures every participating country operates with identical expectations of excellence, safety, and verification.
